Pan, Pan, and more Pan…

Celebration of pan, an abundance of pan, pan pun pan…all that and more in the four day pan extravaganza that makes up the Pandemonium series of pan concerts in the 2009 Crop Over Festival.

Everything starts on Thursday July 16th, 2009, with a free session on Dover Pasture, Christ Church, with the BTI Back-In-Time Pan from 7:00-10:00 p.m. Featuring pan groups include Reddi Panners, Holy Trinity, and Sunset Steel, and vocalists Tony Grazette, Romeo, Donella and Kidsite. The MC will be Jennifer Walker.

This pan-fest continues with the BTI Pan Lime in Speightstown, St. Peter, from 7:00 p.m. with St Lucy Steel, Banks Sound Tech, Eastland All Stars, Exotic Steel Orchestra, Olakunde, Pan Batuque, Exotic Steel Orchestra, Tropical Steel Orchestra, and MC Carl Alff Padmore.

The third pan event, Pan in the City, returns to Bridgetown on

Saturday July 18, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. It will be made all the more exciting by the raising of the swing bridge, and the Israel Lovell Foundation steel pan group playing on a barge in the Careenage. Other performers include Pan Batuque, Olakunde, Banks Sound tech, Eastland All Stars, the Kisscake Crew with vocalists Ishiaka McNeil and Lady J. Antoine Williams will be the MC.

Crop Over Pan pun de sandThe signature pan event, Pan Pun the Sand will be held at the usual spot, Brandons Beach, Spring Garden, St. Michael, on July 19, from 3:00 p.m. featuring the Neal and Massy All Stars from Trinidad and Tobago.

Sharing the stage with the award winning group will be Pan Extreme, Israel Lovell Foundation, Sunset Steel, the Barbados Defence Force/St. Lucy Secondary band, Reddi Panners, and a host of vocalists. These include Red Plastic Bag and Grynner backed by Sunset Steel; Edwin, Smokey, Mikey, and Biggie Irie backed by Pan Extreme, and TC and Natahlee with special arrangements by David “Ziggy” Walcott. The MC is Carl Alff Padmore.
