The Wettest Sunday for 2009

The Cockspur Caribbean Wet Fete started with a moderate splash yesterday evening. There might have been water, but the number of patrons actually getting wet was small when compared to pass years.

The few hundred early patrons who steadily, but slowly entered the gates, had a tough time finding a bit of shade in the blistering sun.

The line-up of entertainers to perform was a healthy mix of the well known and the not so well known. The crowd at times seemed more interested in the water showers to beat the heat, than what was happening main stage.

Trinidad’s Sanell Dempter guest appeared with Jabae, and although not well known to the bajans, she was still able to move the crowd with the more popular tunes from across the region which she performed.

Not that the other performances were bad, just that the energy was lacking. Mikey, Lil Rick and Peter Ram gave excellent performances, but the crowd favourites would have to be Gorg and Salt, so much so that the fence separating VIP from general came crashing down, as the crowd stormed the front of the stage.

The Royal Barbados Police Force quickly came to keep things under control, much to the delight of the producers of the event and the VIP patrons.

The much anticipated performance of Trinidad Carnival icons Fay-Ann Lyons and Bunji Garlin, as well as Alan Sheppard of Spice & Co fame, closed out the show.
