What time does the fete (party) really start?

The nights of leaving home to get to a fete by 11pm, the latest, is clearly a thing of the past!

If you dare mention to your party crew that you were at a fete from 11:30pm, you will be the laughing stock, 12:30 seems to be the preferred hour of arrival and don’t even think of leaving before 5am, that’s right 5am……next morning, unless the police stop the fete!

The party scene has really changed, just a few years ago, most fetes would finish by 2:30am, a few special events may go until 3:00am, but nowadays that’s not the case, more and more fetes are going ’til the sun comes up.

It is understandable though, the party does not really get started until be place is nearly bursting at the seams, till all the ‘crews’ are well represented or till the favourite DJ comes in. (for those of you who don’t know, most fetes have more than one DJ). By that time all the fellas already ’scoping out’ the hottest chicks in the place, meeting new friends, meeting old friends, everybody feeling hyped, dancing, singing, “staggering”, you have to be there to understand.

At Crop Over, nights seem to spill right into morning, this is most evident if you attend any Brewsters Road Crew party or Passion Network lime. Although Brewster Road is a paid fete, the number of people in attendance has sky-rocketed. Some folks still remember when only twenty (20) people would go to a BRC fete, times have changed. Just to be seen in one of their fetes, legitimizes you as a real “party-animal”and you will be welcomed with open arms at any other event for years to come.

Passion Network over the years, preferred the intimacy of a “lime”, where you felt like family, everybody know everybody, just hanging out having a good time, good food, drinks and sweet soca music. Well, that thought went right out the door in 2009! There is nothing intimate about 2000 people liming! They should stop calling it that by now, simply put, it’s a free fete, with all the trimmings and more of a paid fete. But you know what, you still feel like family!

Now if you want a definition of a true lime, the popular Contact Pork Lime is it. It starts at 5pm, on a traditional liming evening, Friday……. there is lots of food, drinks, a large but comfortable crowd, music loud enough to dance and still have conversations with your friends, and finishes at a reasonable time mid-night!

All said and and done, when you are out-on-the-town having a good time, no-ones wants to be first to go home, just incase you miss something, but wait it gets better……. did you hear?……24 hours of non-stop partying, like only Brewster Road Crew can! See you there.
